Now Offering Patients Bedside Prescription Delivery
DELAND – Florida Hospital DeLand recently partnered with Walgreens to provide a free bedside prescription delivery for patients being discharged home. This partnership is specific to the Walgreens Pharmacy at 100 E. International Speedway Blvd. in DeLand.

The new program allows patients that are being discharged to have their prescriptions delivered to their bedside, before they leave the hospital.

“Typically, patients are discharged with prescriptions that need to be filled for their at-home care. This means the caregiver must either delay taking the patient home immediately after discharge so that they can make a trip to the drugstore to fill the prescriptions, or they can take the patient home directly after discharge and then leave them there to go to the drugstore,” said Pat Stark, Florida Hospital DeLand Chief Nursing Officer. “Understandably, this is quite inconvenient for both the caregiver and the patient. Leaving the hospital with the prescriptions already filled is much more convenient, safer and keeps the patients best interest in mind.”

On October 12, Kimerli Dotts, 22, appreciated the convenience of this new program after delivering her second child, Cole Davis, at Florida Hospital DeLand.

“I don’t have the hassle of going to get my medications myself,” the DeLand resident said. “This is a better experience than when I had my first child at a different hospital. Everyone here has been great. You can tell things here have been upgraded a lot.”

The hours for the free delivery program are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  However, if the patient does not want to wait on their prescription to be delivered during these hours, or the delivery is needed after hours, there is an additional service called “Prompt Pick-up”.  Walgreens will expedite the filling of the prescriptions so the patient may utilize their drive through window to pick up their prescriptions.

Most importantly, the patients who choose to utilize either prescription fulfillment option are provided additional education about their new medications at the time of discharge, and again within 48 to 72 hours of discharge.
