Fourth Graders Decorate Turkeys For Hospital Patients
DELAND – Stephanie Brogan’s fourth grade class at Pierson Elementary School have been very busy preparing for this year’s Thanksgiving season. The 16 students have organized a paper-turkey decorating project to cheer up patients at Florida Hospital DeLand.

The students decorated most of the turkeys themselves, but they also sent undecorated paper turkeys across the United States to be decorated by friends and family members.

As a first-year teacher at Pierson Elementary School, Brogan got her alma mater in on the fun too. She asked the students learning to becoming teachers at Radford University in Virginia to decorate paper turkeys as well.

All in all, nearly 100 paper turkeys have been decorated and donated to Florida Hospital DeLand to brighten the Thanksgiving Day of patients admitted to the hospital.

“They’re very proud [of the program and decorated turkeys]!” said Brogan. “Several of my students have had ill family members in and out of the hospital recently and my kids thought this would be a nice way to show others in the hospital that they care about them.”
