DELAND, Fla., September 13, 2013 – On September 6, Florida’s First Lady Ann Scott stopped by Florida Hospital DeLand’s BirthCare Center to share her “Love.Read.Learn!™” baby journal with new parents.
The Love.Read.Learn!™ journal is an engaging and educational scrapbook-style booklet that is filled with reading and learning tips, as well as child wellness information. It enables parents to keep track of their child’s immunization records and offers nutrition and wellness information. It also provides places to insert baby photos, “first word” memories and favorite stories. Designed to be one of the first gifts a child receives, these journals reinforces the state’s commitment to literacy and health.
While at Florida Hospital DeLand, Scott hand-delivered these colorful booklets to three new moms. The hospital will distribute the journals to new parents for the rest of the year.
The journal is based on 2008 findings of the National Early Reading Panel which analyzed the existing literature on early learning to determine what the skills and abilities are of young children (birth-five years) that predict later reading, writing, or spelling outcomes.
