Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial have been recognized as a
Top 100 company for working families by the Orlando Sentinel. This is the seventh consecutive year for Florida Hospital Fish Memorial and the sixth consecutive year for Florida Hospital DeLand.
“Winning this award, especially for so many consecutive years, shows how much we value a family-friendly work environment,” said Opal Howard, Florida Hospital DeLand Human Resources Director. “We strive to help our employees by providing benefits, scheduling, and training that encourages a balance between work and family.”
Every year, family-friendly companies in Central Florida are invited to submit applications for the Orlando Sentinel's Top 100 Companies for Working Families. The application consists of a series of questions to determine what benefits are provided in categories of core-benefits, family-related benefits, work environment, communication, and training. An independent panel of local human resources experts reviewed the applications and supporting documents submitted by applicants.
Both hospitals offer a variety of programs to benefits working families, such as Florida Hospital Fish Memorial’s “Hip, Hip, Hooray for Straight A’s” program and Florida Hospital DeLand’s Partner Program, a health program that promotes wellness and engages members to lead a long and healthy life.
“Florida Hospital Fish Memorial values education and wants to encourage the children of our hospital family to excel in school,” said Bonne MacPherson, Director of Human Resources, Volunteer Services, and Employee Health. “With the ‘Hip, Hip, Hooray for Straight A’s’ program, we give every child that receives straight A’s on the last grading period of the year a $50 savings bond, a certificate of excellence, and list their names in our employee newsletter. This year we had 58 children qualify.”
The Florida Hospital DeLand and Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, along with the other Top Companies for Working Families, will be recognized on Friday, August 5 at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando®, 6300 Hollywood Way, Orlando.
