DELAND, Fla., March 12, 2014 – Florida Hospital DeLand announced today it has earned Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation.
The CoC accreditation program encourages facilities to improve their quality of patient care through various cancer-related programs that focus on prevention, early diagnosis, pretreatment evaluation, staging, optimal treatment, rehabilitation, surveillance for recurrent disease, support services, and end-of-life care.
“Earning the CoC accreditation recognizes our commitment to providing the best in cancer diagnosis and treatment,” said Mike Brantley, Florida Hospital DeLand director of oncology operations. “Having this accreditation allows our program to demonstrate the high quality of care we provide, and the commitment to continuing a quality improvement journey.”
Recognizing that cancer is a complex group of diseases, the CoC program standards promote consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary cooperation results in improved patient care.
Florida Hospital DeLand’s cancer care team, which includes physicians, ancillary services and administrative staff, worked together to ensure that these various components of accreditation were met.
“With this accolade, the community can take comfort in knowing that our Cancer Center provides quality care close to home,” Brantley said. “Our multidisciplinary team coordinates the best treatment approach with our state-of-the-art cancer-fighting equipment. We also offer a variety of patient-centric options for cancer care, including genetic counseling, psychosocial support, and evidence-based treatment planning.”
