Florida Hospital DeLand Completes ER Construction

DELAND, Fla., May 9, 2014 – Florida Hospital DeLand has completed the $1.7 million construction project to renovate its emergency department, expanding the number of beds from 23 to 28.

In addition to adding five beds to the emergency department, most of the patient rooms will be walled-in, eliminating many of the privacy curtains. The renovation project also upgraded the room amenities, including flooring, ceiling tiles and cabinetry, as well as added children’s area to the lobby.

Construction began in June 2013, and the emergency department remained open and fully functional throughout the entire process.

“The emergency department staff is excited about our refreshed, enlarged space.  We thank all of our patients who were so understanding during this renovation project, and look forward to sharing our facility with our community,” said Beth Hooks, Florida Hospital DeLand emergency department director. “While we continue to polish some finishing touches, including adding TV’s to the patient rooms, the emergency department and our staff stand, as always, ready to care for everyone who needs us.”

Despite having the second-highest volume in Volusia County, Florida Hospital DeLand has the smallest number of beds in the area. By adding the additional beds, the renovations will help improve efficiency and shorten wait times.

“Our ER is the front door to our hospital,” said Tim Cook, Florida Hospital DeLand CEO. “We chose to renovate our ER to ensure our patients’ have the best experience possible during what can be such a critical time in a family’s life.”
