Employee as Hero of the Year 2014

DELAND, Fla., May 13, 2014 – Lourdes Cintron, Florida Hospital DeLand housekeeper, has been recognized as the hospital’s “Hero of the Year.”

Florida Hospital DeLand selects a “Hero of the Year” from the previous 12 candidates who received the “Hero of the Month” accolade. These candidates are nominated by fellow employees for going above and beyond expectations.

An excerpt from her nomination form explains why Cintron was recognized with this award.

“One time I was checking in on Lourdes and I heard her usual sweet-toned voice asking a patient if there was anything she could do for her before she started cleaning her room. The patient said that she would love some milk for her coffee, but when Lourdes looked for milk in the nourishment room, there was none. Lourdes called me, not knowing I was watching her, to tell me she needed to go to the cafeteria. I later found out she bought the milk with her own money just for the patient,” the nomination said. “Lourdes is such a gifted and loving individual who I have the pleasure to work with on a day-by-day basis and is just wonderful with patients. Lourdes is a prime example of extending the healing ministry of Christ. I have seen her stand in the hallway, outside of a patient’s room that is being resuscitated, and praying for that patient. Every day that Lourdes works is a good day!”
